Share to Circles with the +1 Button

The +1 button is a great way to recommend the pages you love on Google Search. But sometimes there’s content you want to share right away -- at least with certain circles of friends. That's why we'll be rolling out sharing on +1 button soon. Nuanced sharing is a critical part of the Google+ project -- this enhancement is a first step to exposing such sharing across the Web.

Millions of sites are using the +1 button to let visitors recommend their content right in Google search results. Now these sites will get an added benefit as +1 provides an easy way for visitors to share content into Google+. If you manage a website, your visitors can start a conversation about your site’s content with the circles who are most likely to enjoy it, expanding your audience while helping your content get noticed on Google Search at the same time.

Add plus one button to your website

Now, today, the first of June, it is possible to add a plus one button (+1) to every website!

Google announced that they release it for live use today, after a two months test period. (Yes, you have been able to test the Google plus one button already, but only for search results, not directly on websites.) Read on for finding out how to add the plus one button to your website!

How to add plus one button to website

You can go to this page on Google. There is provided a code that you have to insert on your website and your blog on the places where you want the button. It is very simple, just a simple javascript tag in the header of your page, and a custom Google code on the place where you want the plus one button on your website.

Google +1 (Plus One) Button for Websites Coming Soon

Just as Twitter has launched its “follow” button, another social button is on the way tomorrow. That would be the Google +1 button, which was announced two months ago, and could have a significant impact on search rankings for websites.

Google Plus One Button

Apparently the PR company of one of Google’s launch partners, Clearspring, wrote TechCrunch an email, saying, “I understand that Google planned to reach out to you about the new Google +1 button for websites that they’ll be unveiling shortly. I thought you might be interested in speaking with Hooman Radfar, CEO of Clearspring, about the company’s role as a launch partner for Google +1.”
Danny Sullivan at Search Engine Land says he’s confirmed with Google that it is indeed launching the +1 button for websites tomorrow. If you’re unfamiliar with the button, this video will basically get you up to speed:
Google has said flat out that the button will be used as a ranking signal.

Overstock.com No Longer Penalized by Google

Back in February, Google penalized Overstock.com in search results, after the site’s pages had ranked near the top of results for dozens of common searches, such as “vacuum cleaners” and “laptop computers”.
The Wall Street Journal exposed the story as the site’s rankings dropped to the fifth and sixth pages for a lot of the topics.

Overstock.com No Longer Penalized by Google
The rankings drop was the result of the site’s practice of encouraging college and university sites to post links to Overstock pages so that students and faculty could get discounts. Still the penalty came after Overstock had already discontinued the program.

Google's Plus One - Google goes social!

Back in early December of last year, we first reported that Google was toying around with the name “+1″ for an upcoming social product. At the time, we were told it was sort of like Google’s version of the “like” or “retweet” button.

Today it officially launches as a way to share Google Search results that you like with your friends and the broader web in general. Oh, and also a way to inject social into Google Ads.

Google PR Update 2011
